Rudolf's Revenge
I was not ready for the way Rudolf’s nose actually glows. Like, not a cute little dot, but this pulsating red beacon that seems to sync with the thrusting. The whole thing is framed as some sort of seasonal revenge fantasy, which I guess makes sense if you spend your whole life being laughed at by other reindeer. The animation is janky on purpose, with a weird stop motion feel that makes every impact land with this awkward, heavy silence before the sound catches up. There is a moment where the camera just lingers on his face, mouth slightly open, eyes half lidded, and I swear I felt like I was intruding on something private. The deer model itself is uncanny. The proportions are all wrong in a way that loops back around to being hypnotic. His antlers clip through the background constantly, and nobody bothered to fix it. That actually adds something though, a reminder that this was made by someone who had a very specific vision and zero interest in polish. The payback time tagline is delivered with this dead serious tone while the most absurd grinding happens on screen. I wish there was more variety in the angles, but honestly the single minded focus kind of works for what it is. You ever just stare at a gif for way too long and forget what you were doing? That is the whole experience. The sound design deserves a mention, mostly because it sounds like someone recorded wet slaps in an empty bathroom and layered them over a royalty free winter wind loop. The contrast between the festive jingle bells and the raw, sloppy foley is genuinely disorienting. I kept thinking about those old newgrounds animations where the creator clearly had one thing on their mind and just went for it. The christmas theme feels almost sarcastic, like a dare. You got your candy canes and your snowflakes and then just relentless, mechanical rutting. It does not try to be sexy in a traditional way, and that is probably why I kept watching. The whole thing loops perfectly too, which is a small mercy. Or a curse, depending on how you look at it.
