About this game
The sound design in Candy Shop is a war crime against my headphones. That wet squelch when you're shaping the marshmallow girl, it's like someone recorded a clogged drain and thought "yeah, that's erotic." I've spent way too much time analyzing audio in these games and this one has layers of wrong. The squish sounds don't match the visual timing at all, there's this half-second delay that makes my brain itch. But the worst part? The giggling. Some stock library "teen girl laugh" that loops every twelve seconds while you're working. I counted. Twelve seconds exactly. It's burned into my cortex now.
The whole premise is absurd in that specific hentai way where you just have to accept it. You're making a girl out of marshmallows. Not like a sculpture, an actual living girl. The opening quote about eating a ten pound marshmallow and losing the pillow, that got a genuine snort out of me. The torture tag is misleading though, it's more like clumsy fondling with candy themed tools. There's this one moment where you're applying the "sugar glaze" and the audio completely cuts out for three seconds. Just silence. I thought my browser crashed. Turns out it's a feature? A bug? Nobody knows. The devs certainly aren't fixing it.
The marshmallow texture looks more like uncooked dough, all pale and slightly translucent. When you poke it, the indent stays too long. Real marshmallows have bounce, they spring back. I'm getting hung up on marshmallow physics in a hentai game, this is where my life has gone. The humor lands accidentally half the time, like when the girl's face glitches and her eyes swap positions. Nightmare fuel that made me laugh harder than any of the actual jokes. The whole thing feels like it was made in a weekend by someone who discovered Ren'Py and had very specific candy fetish energy. I respect the commitment to the bit even if the audio makes me want to puncture my eardrums with a lollipop stick.
