About this game
The name thing. That's where it starts. You're a guy with a name that everyone in this new country thinks is for girls. First day at school, the teacher calls roll and there's this pause, this little giggle from the back of the class. You can feel your face get hot. It's such a small, stupid detail but it sets the whole tone for Exchange Student. This isn't some power fantasy. It's awkward. Deliberately awkward.
The host family doesn't help. The mom, she's this milf type obviously, but she's not throwing herself at you. Not at first. She just... looks. Lingers a bit too long when she's showing you how the shower works. The sound design here is weirdly effective, just these little domestic noises, a kettle boiling, footsteps on the floor above you, that make the house feel too quiet and too loud at the same time. The visual novel scenes are these static cg hentai images that pop up, and they're not polished. The art has this rough, almost unfinished quality. A nipple looks a bit smudged, the linework on a thigh is a little shaky. And honestly? It works. It feels like a sketchbook, something private and a bit dirty you weren't supposed to see.
There's a scene with a classmate, a teen girl who's supposed to be your guide. She's explaining some school custom and you get a dialogue choice that's basically "listen politely" or "stare at her skirt." I stared. The game just let the silence hang for a beat too long before she noticed. The pacing is all over the place, some conversations drag forever and then a sex scene will just... happen. Abruptly. With a single, looping moan that sounds like it was recorded on a phone in a bathroom. It's jarring. I complained about the translation in another game once and someone told me it added charm. I still think that's bullshit, but here the broken english actually fits the whole culture shock theme. You're lost in the dialogue just like the character is lost in the country. Or maybe I'm just making excuses for bad editing. The student council president has this one expression where her eyes don't quite line up and I can't stop thinking about it.
