The sound of a fist hitting a jaw in Trueclash is... wrong. Not bad wrong. Just, like, technically fascinating wrong. It's this wet, almost squelchy thwack, like someone dropped a raw chicken breast onto a tile floor. I spent maybe twenty minutes just replaying the first fight scene, not for the story, but because I couldn't figure out if the sound designer had ever actually heard a punch. There's no bone crackle, no sharp snap. It's all low-end thud and a weird, lingering reverb that makes every hit feel like it's happening inside a damp cave. And the crowd? The crowd is a single, looping roar that sounds suspiciously like the background noise from a stock library I used for a student film once. I'm 90% sure I still have that file on an old hard drive.
Anyway, you're a trainer in some hyper-violent MMA future, trying to get with these huge, impossibly sculpted fighters. The bara and otome tags are doing a lot of heavy lifting here. The character art for the guys is genuinely good, all thick necks and thighs that could crush a skull, but the sex scenes have this bizarre audio mix. The moans are so dry. No spit, no slickness. It's like two action figures rubbing together. There's a scene with a fighter named Kael, right after you win his trust, and the kissing sound is just... a single peck. One peck. Looped. For a make-out session. I couldn't stay hard because I was too busy laughing. The writing is trying to be serious with its "Decision Echo" system, where your past lies come back to haunt you, but then the audio betrays it completely.
The lesbian route has a scene in a locker room where the shower sound is clearly just a faucet running into a metal bucket. I know that sound. I've recorded that sound. It's not sexy. It's the sound of me trying to clean a paintbrush. The game wants you to feel the tension of this brutal world, but the audio keeps reminding you it's just a bunch of assets slapped together. And yet, I kept playing. Not because it was good, but because the sheer weirdness of the soundscape became its own kind of draw. Like, what will the next wet thwack sound like? A zipper? A gunshot? The game never answers that question, and maybe that's the point.
