The first thing that hits you is the music. It’s this low rent lounge jazz, like someone left a Casio keyboard in a damp basement and it learned to play itself. The models move to it with this stiff, hypnotic sway that reminds me of those old animatronic displays at a forgotten seaside arcade. A blonde in black lace keeps doing a move that’s supposed to be a hair flip but her hand passes right through her skull. I couldn’t stop watching.

The poker is broken. Beautifully, deliberately broken. You get five cards and you can trade up to three with the opponent you want to see less clothed. The game doesn’t explain the hand rankings, it just flashes “TWO PAIR” in a font that looks like it was stolen from a 1997 tax software. I traded a queen for a seven just to see what the brunette would do. She gave me a look of pure digital contempt and then her bra vanished. There’s no logic to it. The AI folds on a full house and calls your bluff when you’re holding a 2 and a 7 off suit. It’s not about winning, it’s about the transaction.

A weird thing happens with the card exchange. The game freezes for a split second, just a single frame, where the model’s expression goes completely blank. Not sexy, not playful. Just a void. A therapist would have a field day with that. The desire here isn’t for the nakedness, it’s for the glitch. The moment the illusion of a real model cracks and you see the raw code underneath. There's a karma system that supposedly carries over to a sequel, so I spent twenty minutes agonizing over whether to be a dick to this one green skinned lady who kept teasing me through a viewscreen. The dialogue is written by someone who clearly mainlines tokusatsu and cheap philosophy in equal measure. One minute you're debating the nature of justice with a synthetic woman whose ass has its own gravitational pull, the next you're in a turn based battle that feels like it was coded in a weekend. The oral scenes have this particular jank where the mouth animations don't quite sync but somehow that makes it hotter? Like a bootleg VHS you found in your uncle's basement. I wish the map navigation was less clunky, the click zones are tiny and I kept accidentally groping a statue instead of the actual character, which, okay, maybe that's a feature not a bug given the tone. The soundtrack genuinely slaps though. No joke. It sounds like a lost cassette from an 80s sentai show that never existed, all wailing guitars and synth stabs. The game knows what it's doing, dangling these choices that feel like they matter but really just funnel you toward whichever girl you're simping for. Or both. There's a poly route, which I stumbled into completely by accident because I couldn't stop flirting with everyone like a horny disaster. The sex scenes have this frame by frame animation thing going on. It's not super smooth, kinda jittery actually, but somehow that makes it hotter? Like a flipbook made by someone who really, really understands ahegao faces. Mira's tongue lolling out during a titfuck, eyes rolling back. Chef's kiss. Ocean waves, seagulls, this lo-fi beat that made me forget I was edging for like twenty minutes. Then the moaning kicks in and it's like oh right, I'm here for the plot. The voice acting is... there? I think? I was distracted. My one complaint, and I'm still mad about this, is that the game remembers your renovation choices but not your dialogue choices in certain scenes. So I'd pick the teasing option, get a great reaction, then the next line would play out like I'd chosen the nice guy response. Immersion shattered. This one actually pulls off the clever part, mostly. Honey Select models doing absurdist comedy while a monster plot brews in the background. The pirate girl who might kill you in your sleep, that's not a joke, she's genuinely unhinged and I love her for it. Big ass, big tits, all the standard Honey Select proportions but the writing makes them feel like actual characters instead of walking sex dolls. Sometimes. The blackmail route caught me off guard. Not because it's particularly dark, but because the pov shifts make you feel like a creep even when you're supposedly the hero. Male protagonist, virgin, surrounded by a harem of cosplay obsessed classmates. Standard setup. But then the voyeurism kicks in and suddenly you're not sure if you're playing a comedy or something that'll get you on a watchlist. The teasing is relentless, scenes build up and then the game pulls back, laughing at you. It's frustrating in the best way. Spent way too long in the empty house at the start. The father mystery letter thing, who cares honestly, I was just clicking through to get to the school setting. Dumbarton. What a name for a town. The horror elements sneak up though, one minute you're dealing with a girl who thinks she's a pirate captain, next minute there's a monster and the comedy turns sour. The 3dcg isn't polished, Honey Select never is, but the jank adds to the fever dream quality. Like watching a cam show where the girl keeps breaking character to laugh at her own setup. That's the vibe. Not sure if intentional but it works. The two routes thing, they say equal effort but the harem path feels more fleshed out. Or maybe I just prefer the absurdist comedy over the horror. The virgin protagonist thing gets old fast but the cosplay scenes, when they finally happen, are worth the wait. Big tits everywhere, obviously, this is Honey Select, but the monster design is actually creepy which I didn't expect. Contradicting myself here but the game is both too slow and perfectly paced. Don't think about it too hard. Just enjoy the pirate girl threatening to stab you while wearing a school uniform two sizes too small.
