About this game
You ever read one of those old shoujo manga where the innocent protagonist gets absolutely wrecked by a dark, older woman who knows exactly what she wants? Occultus is that, but with fangs and a lot less crying. The art has this deliberately rough, almost unfinished quality to the CGs. Not lazy, more like someone sketched their wet dreams in a hurry before the image faded. It works for the seedy, occult vibe of Moroburg. Your aunt character, she's not just a vampire, she's the whole damn coven wrapped in silk and bad intentions. The first time she corners you in her study, the dialogue is pure velvet corruption. She talks about the town's underbelly like it's a wine list, and you're the virgin vintage she's been saving.
But here's the thing. The pacing is like a fondue pot that never quite gets hot enough. Lots of stirring, lots of promising bubbles, but the cheese stays stubbornly stringy. You'll be clicking through text about cult hierarchies and wealthy debauchery, and I'm thinking, okay, auntie, less lecturing, more lechering. There's this one scene with a shadowy monster in the garden that's genuinely creepy and hot, a real tentacle adjacent vibe without the goo, and then it just... ends. Like the writer got shy. For a game about embracing darkness, it sometimes feels weirdly hesitant to just go full degenerate. The aunt's design is killer though, all sharp angles and knowing smirks, the kind of woman who'd call you a good boy while ruining your life. I just wish the game would stop flirting and actually ruin me already.
