There's a certain charm to a game that doesn't even try to hide its rough edges. Reincarnotica loads up and immediately you're staring at this middle aged loser's shitty apartment, the UI looks like it was slapped together in a weekend, and the English translation has that beautiful broken quality where you can practically hear the original Japanese sentence structure underneath. I don't know why that makes the whole thing hotter but it does. Maybe because it feels like finding some weird unlabeled VHS tape instead of a polished product.

The body swap setup is classic wish fulfillment trash and I mean that as a compliment. You're this pathetic guy who suddenly wakes up young again with two absolute smoke shows orbiting him, and the game doesn't waste much time before the clothes start coming off. The CG scenes are actually pretty good considering everything else looks like a PowerPoint presentation. There's this one scene with the redhead bent over a VR headset console that lives rent free in my brain now. The mystery angle about how you got into this body and what the hell is going on with the virtual reality stuff is surprisingly engaging for something I opened purely to crank one out. I kept clicking just to see where the sci-fi thread was going, which is not what I expected from a game with a "fuck two girls at one time" power fantasy premise.

The sound design is basically nonexistent except for some looping ambient tracks that sound like they came from a royalty free website circa 2004. I wish there was voice acting, even bad voice acting would elevate this. Actually no, the silence during sex scenes is weirdly intimate in a voyeuristic way. The power mechanic they tease in the description takes forever to actually manifest and when it does it's kind of underwhelming, just a couple extra dialogue choices that lead to the threesome content you were already expecting. What I really wanted was more body horror mixed with the erotic stuff, like moments where the protagonist catches his reflection and doesn't recognize himself, or glitches in the VR that make you question which reality is real. But that's probably asking too much from a game where the main menu has a tits slider.
