The sound design in Emily Does It All is weirdly specific about zippers. You notice it during the first real scene with Nick, that friends with benefits setup where you can practically feel the dorm room's shitty fluorescent light flickering. The zipper sound is too loud, mixed way forward, and it happens every single time clothes come off. Which is often. Emily's eyes go half lidded in a way that's more believable than most triple A games manage. There's a moment during the sixty nine scene with Claire, the prim and proper one who is absolutely not prim about anything below the neck, where the camera just lingers on Emily's face and you watch her go from nervous to completely gone. The pace is all wrong in the best way. It rushes through setup like it's embarrassed to be a visual novel, then slows to an absolute crawl when hands start wandering. Like a party where someone spilled wine on the carpet and everyone froze, except the wine is arousal and nobody's sorry.

The exhibitionism stuff sneaks up on you. One choice has Emily in the library stacks, and the game doesn't make a big deal about it. You just realize halfway through the groping that anyone could walk by. The tension isn't in the act itself, it's in the pauses between dialogue choices where the background noise of the library keeps playing. Footsteps. Someone coughing. The game forgets to have a soundtrack during these moments, which is either brilliant or a bug. It's a prison, so the power dynamics are the whole point. You're not here for a nuanced take on the carceral system.
