About this game
I keep hitting Z like a woodpecker on meth because the text crawl in Monster Ambassador is slower than a minotaur trying to do calculus. But then this slime girl shows up and suddenly I'm reading every word. She's translucent. You can see her... insides. Not organs, you pervert. I mean the gooey swirls and bubbles that make up her body, and they shift when she talks. There's a turn based battle where she engulfs your character and the screen gets all wobbly and wet looking. I lost on purpose. Twice.
The game calls itself an adventure about making friends with monsters. Sure. "Friends." The minotaur scene I stumbled into was less friendship and more... let's say enthusiastic muscle worship with anatomical correctness that made me close my browser real quick when my cat jumped on the desk. The humor is actually decent though. One slime girl makes a joke about being low calorie. I snorted.
The battle system is basic. Like, really basic. Attack, defend, maybe use an item if you remembered to pick one up. I still don't know what half the stats do because the tutorial is about three text boxes long and then you're fighting a tentacle creature that has very specific ideas about personal space. The art style is deliberately rough, sketchy almost, which somehow makes the explicit stuff hit harder? Or maybe I'm just desensitized from all those perfectly rendered 3D games where everyone looks like a mannequin dipped in oil.
They're promising magic abilities later, quests, more story. Right now it's pretty bare bones. But there's this one scene with a plant monster that I keep thinking about. The way the vines move. The sound design is just some stock squelching noises but my brain filled in the rest. I should probably go touch grass. Or not. There's a new update supposedly coming with more monster types and I haven't befriended the harpy yet.
